Diastematomyelia (Type 1)
- Overlying skin lesions include: hairy patch, nevus, hemangioma, dimple, lipoma
- Symptoms: clubfeet, leg weakness, muscle atrophy, scoliosis, back pain, sphincter dysfunction, sciatica
- Type 1 (external): two dural sacs and commonly a spur (cartilage, fibrous); patients are always symptomatic
- Type 2 (internal): one dural sac, no spur, generally asymptomatic except when associated with myelomeningocele
