    American Journal of Neuroradiology January 2015, 36 (1) 70-76; DOI: https://doi.org/10.3174/ajnr.A4065

Brain tumor location has prognostic implications so these authors explored whether location also correlated with p53 status in 182 patients. Tumors occurring in the left medial temporal and right anterior temporal lobes were associated with high expression of mutant p53 and had significantly worse progression-free survival.

Abnormal White Matter Integrity in Chronic Users of Codeine-Containing Cough Syrups: A Tract-Based Spatial Statistics Study
    Y.-w. Qiu, H.-h. Su, X.-f. Lv and G.-h. Jiang
    American Journal of Neuroradiology January 2015, 36 (1) 50-56; DOI: https://doi.org/10.3174/ajnr.A4070

Because codeine is a popular drug and results in cognitive deficits, the authors assessed 30 chronic users and 30 controls with DTI. Chronic codeine users showed lower fractional anisotropy in 4 brain regions and higher scores on the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale. It appears that chronic codeine-containing syrup abuse may be associated with disruptions in brain white matter integrity and that these microstructural deficits may be linked to higher impulsivity in chronic users.

Early Reperfusion Rates with IV tPA Are Determined by CTA Clot Characteristics

    American Journal of Neuroradiology December 2014, 35 (12) 2265-2272; DOI: https://doi.org/10.3174/ajnr.A4048

These authors evaluated CTA studies of 228 patients paying special attention to the clot features, and correlated these features with early reperfusion rates. Clot features that predicted successful early reperfusion included: shorter clot, residual flow within the clot, and distal location. Reperfusion was achieved in only 8% of patients with longer and proximal clots and in those without residual flow.
