A 7-year-old girl with mild developmental delay (speech and motor) since early infancy. No history of in utero exposure to infections, drugs, or radiation. Born to a nonconsanguineous couple, at full term, via spontaneous vaginal delivery. Her neonatal period was uneventful. Physical examination revealed macrocrania, mild hypotelorism, a flat nose, and mild extremities spasticity.

A 24-year-old woman with no relevant medical history presents to the emergency department for an episode of nausea, right-sided altered sensation, and aphasia, followed by a generalized tonic-clonic seizure. On arrival to the ED, the patient has no acute complaints and a normal neurologic exam.
