A 38-year-old man with slowly growing left nasal mass. No history of epistaxis. No signs of infection were present. No significant past medical or surgical history.
Solitary Extrapleural Fibrous Tumor
- Rare, usually benign tumor that originates from submesothelial, mesenchymal cells. Usually affects adults between 20-80 years of age, with no gender predilection.
- Sinonasal apperance is rare. When affecting nasal cavity, they present as painless, unilateral nasal fossa masses, with secondary nasal obstruction and epistaxis.
- Key Diagnostic Features: Well defined, expansile soft-tissue lesion on CT. Calcification or necrosis can sometimes be seen. On MRI studies, these lesions are isointense to muscle on T1WI and hypointense on T2WI. Heterogeneous enhancement is seen.
- DDx: Inflammatory polyp, papilloma, epithelial neoplasms, lymphoma, esthesioneuroblastoma, sarcoma
- Rx: Surgical resection
